They also have carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.
Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or at night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Also the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.

It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
